Some secondary thoughts

A few days back, i was reading a discussion online on the evolution of what is popularly called Web 2.0, in an Indian context... No, dont go away, this is not becoming a business blog , not yet :D
Anyway, the discussion was about what kind of web 2.0 models would succeed in India.. And Orkut being one of the top ten sites accessed by Indians (according to Alexa), it, alongwith the others in the 'me too' category like yaari, minglebox, desimartini etc became one of the topics of discussion...
And that set me wondering..the succcess of orkut in an american context is not surprising... the absence of a 'real' social network with relatives and family, at least as compared to India, makes it a very interesting concept... but even with the increasing nmbr of da txt drvn generation which is born with a technological silver spoon, and the omnipresent guys who want to do friendships,it seems way too popular to be just a passing fad..
so, if i have to put the too and too together, are we seeing the start of a new generation whose dependency on real life relatives will be much lesser than their dependence on the virtual life.. with second life becoming primary and real life beoming secondary..

until next time, does second life give second chances?

ahhh....thats a thot. can second life mean second chances?? actually dont want to know....i Hate this tech dependent generation...more of mental androids than human they are....and the only time they face any human emotion they turn into those violent shooters!!

The 'real' social network is now virtual. I know of quite a few people whose surname has evolved to be a 1.0 or 2.0 or some odd serial number !

You are right when you say this generation has been born with the tech silver spoon. Very right at that !

Whilst linkages to relatives ( as in blood relatives ) is definitely on the way down, i guess the linking up in person with individuals met on the net is on the way up ! Now thats not passe. Or is it ?!

'u are born with relatives, thank god u can choose ur friends', i suppose that's why friendship sites are so popular.

all these networking sites just baffle me ... it seems to be an ego trip site for some as you just go around posting public greeting messages for all to see when you could just mail that person in private .. not my kind of thing!

reality is what we perceive of it .. so what harm if 1^0 wer to become 2^0?

isha: fair enough...there's no wrong or right..its more of a discussion on the lines of the entities we are talking of..i have views, and want to know others' views :)

ginger girl: maybe true... but i have always felt that there are second chances but not in the form we expect them to be in ...
